How do I update my AIN/PCA certificates?

Can't see shifts? 👀 There is a good chance one of your certificates has expired!

Updated yesterday

If you have an active Sidekicker profile but suddenly can't see shifts when you log into your app, this is most likely because one (or more!) of your certificates has expired.

Here is a quick overview of the certificates you need to keep up to date. More detail on each certificate is included below.

Hand hygiene

Hand hygiene performed at critical points during patient contact is essential to prevent the onward spread of disease and to limit environmental contamination. It is recommended by the National Hand Hygiene Initiative (NHHI) that hand hygiene is refreshed annually. You can refresh your Hand Hygiene certificate online via the NHHI free portal here.

Please complete the course relevant to your level of experience:

  • Student nurses: please complete the "Student Health Practitioners Online Learning Module" course

  • AIN/PCA: please complete the "Allied Health Online Learning Module" course

Once you have completed your course you will receive a certificate of completion from the NHHI. Please upload this PDF to your Sidekicker profile using these steps.

First Aid & CPR Certification

To work as an AIN/PCA through Sidekicker, you’ll also need to hold valid First Aid and CPR certifications. We require you to have completed:

  • First Aid (HLTAID011) – covers basic emergency response, including bleeding, fractures, and anaphylaxis.

  • CPR (HLTAID009) – a core component of First Aid, this must be updated annually to remain current.

First Aid certification is valid for three years, while CPR must be refreshed every 12 months.

If you don’t yet have these certifications, they’re easy to obtain through nationally recognised training organisations. Some providers include:

You can usually choose between in-person or blended online options, depending on what works best for your schedule.

Flu (influenza) vaccination

You can book your annual flu shot at most pharmacies in Australia (e.g. Terry White Chemmart, Chemist Warehouse, Priceline etc.).

Proof of your current flu shot may include either the signed paperwork from the pharmacist given to you at the time of your vaccination or your immunisation history statement (this can be obtained by using the same process as here).
Please submit proof of your flu vaccination by uploading it to your profile using these steps.

Right to Work

All Sidekicks must complete an online Right to Work Check. To verify your right to work, you’ll need either your passport, citizenship certificate, or Australian visa.
You can follow the steps here to complete your Right to Work.

National Police Check

Many aged care facilities require a current Employer Police Check. While you may already have a Police Check, if it is a volunteer-only check or a check for a different industry, we cannot accept it for Aged Care Sidekicks.

Sidekicker has partnered with National Crime Check to help you get easy, affordable police checks. Sign up to get a police check here and the check will be returned to Sidekicker and automatically added to your profile within a max of 5 business days.

COVID-19 booster (third dose)

As at May 2022, both the QLD and VIC Governments require aged care workers to have received the third dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

Find out what constitutes acceptable proof of vaccination for COVID-19 here, and follow the steps to upload your document.

NDIS Worker Screening Check

Many aged care facilities require a current NDIS Worker Screening Check. Please read below to determine which certificates to upload depending on your current NDIS status.

1. NDIS Worker Screening Check Status = Clearance

If you have an NDIS Clearance (NDIS Yellow Card and/or Clearance number), please upload an image of your card or a copy of the email showing your Clearance number to the "NDIS Worker Screening Check-Clearance" certificate section.

2. NDIS Worker Screening Check Status = Pending / Application ID only

If you have applied for an NDIS Clearance and are awaiting a response, you can still gain access to more shifts on the Sidekicker platform by uploading your NDIS Application number.

Please upload a copy of the email showing your Application ID to the "NDIS Worker Screening Check - Application" certificate section. Once your application has been approved, please follow the steps above to upload your Clearance.

3. Have not yet applied for an NDIS Worker Screening Check

You can apply for an NDIS Worker Screening Check by selecting the relevant state link on the NDIS website here.

Sidekicker are listed as an unregistered provider under the following details:

Employer Id: 4-ICBW12E
Employer name: sidekicker

Volunteer checks are not accepted for paid roles. If you hold a volunteer check, you will need to apply for an employment-specific check. This is because volunteer checks are only valid for unpaid roles and do not meet the legal and compliance requirements for paid work under NDIS and Australian employment regulations.
