What is the difference between Optional, Recommended, and Required certificates?

Information on why some certificates are required and others are optional

Updated over a week ago

Certificates on your Sidekicker profile have two functions;

  1. Required certificates tell us you are work ready (e.g. right work documentation, oh&s induction), and

  2. Recommended certificates aren't required, but will help you unlock even more jobs!

  3. Optional certificates tell businesses you have completed additional checks, inductions or industry training.

Required certificates

A required certificate is a document that you must provide on your Sidekicker profile in order to be able to view jobs and work in certain roles.

There are two required certificates that every Sidekick must-have regardless of which role they are working in;

  • Right to Work Check (see instructions for Australia / New Zealand)

  • Sidekicker Occupational Health & Safety Induction (OH&S)

In addition to the above, there may be additional required certificates you need to upload depending on the roles you have been approved to work in. Some examples include:

  • To work in front-of-house hospitality roles in Australia, you must have a valid RSA applicable to the state you are working in

  • To work as a duty manager in New Zealand, you must have a valid Duty Manager’s Certificate

Recommended Certificates

If you'd like to have access to more jobs in your industry, but aren't sure which certificates to prioritise - recommended certificates are a great place to start!

Some of our clients may require their workers to have additional certificates or checks, which is why preferred certificates will allow you to see more jobs on Sidekicker!

For example, a Food Handlers Certificate is required to work as a Kitchen Hand.

If you want to work as Kitchen Hand within Education, you may also need a Working With Children's Check. That's why having a Food Handlers Certificate as well a Working With Children's Check will allow you to see even more jobs on your dashboard.

Optional certificates

An optional certificate is a document you can choose to upload to your profile in order to access more work.

You can still access most work without these certificates but if you want to unlock more shifts on Sidekicker, or want to improve your chances of being selected by businesses who might favour industry training / pre-employment checks, then we recommend uploading any additional certification to your profile which relates to your experience and work interests.

Some examples of optional certificates include:

Australia

  • National Police Check

  • Working with Children Check

New Zealand

  • Criminal History Check
