How do I complete a background check? (AU)

Information about background checks for Sidekicks in Australia

Updated this week

As a Sidekick, you may be required to complete a criminal history check to be eligible for certain roles or to meet client requirements.

In Australia, criminal history checks are commonly required for work in healthcare, government sectors, driving roles, and some warehousing and hospitality positions.

How do I get a background check?

If you do not already hold a valid background check, you will need to obtain one through an appropriate provider.

If you are progressing through the onboarding process with Sidekicker, you may be provided with instructions or a secure link to complete any required checks as part of verification for potential work opportunities.

Please note: Sidekicker does not reimburse the cost of obtaining a criminal history check.

How do I upload my background check to my Sidekicker profile?

If you complete a check as part of Sidekicker’s onboarding process, your result may be provided directly to Sidekicker and added to your profile where applicable.

Alternatively, if you already have a valid check or choose to obtain one independently, you can upload a copy of your results to your Sidekicker profile by following these steps:

  • Click here to log in and access your certificates.

  • Click on ‘Police Check’ to upload your document

How long is my background check valid?

From the date of issue, Sidekicker recognises criminal history checks for:

  • 3 years for healthcare workers

  • 12 months for other industries

You will receive a reminder prior to expiry if a new check is required.

Volunteer Checks Are Not Accepted for Paid Work

When engaging in paid work through Sidekicker, you must hold a criminal history check that is valid for employment purposes.

A check issued for volunteer purposes is designed for unpaid roles and is not valid for paid employment.

What this means for you

  • Checks issued for volunteer purposes cannot be accepted for paid shifts

  • You must hold a check suitable for employment before starting work

  • If your current check is not suitable, you will need to obtain an appropriate one

  • Incorrect checks may delay your application or affect your eligibility to work

If you have any questions about this, please do not hesitate to reach out via the chat or via your Sidekicker app by clicking 'Get help' - we are always happy to help!
