The minimum break is:
10 hours for all categories except Healthcare
8 hours for the Healthcare category
This rule applies to standard rostered (set) shifts available through the Sidekicker platform. Fixed-term jobs are not affected by this rule.
What does this mean?
If you're hired for a shift, you won't be able to work another eligible shift that starts or ends within the required minimum break period of that shift.
Depending on the job category, the minimum break is either 10 hours or 8 hours.
This means that after you're hired:
Any applications you've submitted for conflicting shifts will be automatically withdrawn.
You won't be able to apply for new conflicting shifts.
Conflicting shifts, including Hot Jobs, won't appear in your available jobs list.
You won't receive job notifications for conflicting shifts.
How is the break calculated?
The minimum break is measured from both the start and end time of your hired shift.
If another eligible set shift starts or ends within the required minimum break period of your hired shift, it will be considered ineligible.
The required break depends on the category:
All categories except Healthcare: 10-hour minimum break
Healthcare: 8-hour minimum break
Example
For all categories except Healthcare
If you're hired for a shift that finishes at 10:00 PM:
A shift starting before 8:00 AM the next day won't be available to you.
A shift starting at 8:00 AM or later may be available.
For Healthcare
If you're hired for a Healthcare shift that finishes at 10:00 PM:
A shift starting before 6:00 AM the next day won't be available to you.
A shift starting at 6:00 AM or later may be available.
What happens to applications I've already submitted?
If you're hired for a shift and another application you've submitted conflicts with the applicable minimum break requirement, that application will be automatically removed.
You don't need to take any action. Once removed, you can no longer be hired for that conflicting shift.
Does this apply to all jobs?
The minimum break rule applies to set shifts only:
All categories except Healthcare: 10-hour break between shifts
Healthcare: 8-hour break between shifts
Fixed-term jobs: Not affected by the minimum break rule
Why can't I see as many jobs as before?
If you're currently hired for an upcoming shift, some jobs may be hidden because they fall within the required minimum break period.
The platform automatically updates your eligible job criteria to exclude shifts that start or end within the applicable 10-hour or 8-hour break period. This includes Hot Jobs.
This helps support adequate rest between shifts, prevent scheduling conflicts, and avoid overtime costs.
