In New Zealand, a criminal record check (MoJ check) is required to work in warehousing, any driving roles, and some hospitality roles.
How Sidekicks are requested to complete a criminal record check
Roles, that have been determined to require a criminal record check in order to work with Sidekicker will find it as a mandatory certificate requirement when completing their account. This means these Sidekicks can not see shifts posted for the roles that require an MoJ check unless it has been added to their profile.
Any other Sidekick can find the criminal record check as a recommended certificate they can add to their profile, in order to see more roles on Sidekicker.
Criminal record check can be completed free of charge through the Ministry of Justice website.
How Sidekicker verifies criminal record checks
Completed criminal record checks are uploaded on the Sidekicks profile as a certificate. Sidekicker verifies all uploaded criminal record checks before marking them approved or rejected.
Sidekicker will review any disclosable court outcomes that may preclude the worker from working in certain roles, and we do not accept criminal record checks with any of the following disclosable court outcomes within the last 10 years:
Offences causing bodily harm
Aggravated or sexual assault
Fraud or identity theft
Offences involving financial gain including theft
Stalking or breaching an Apprehended Violence Order (AVO)
Drink driving offences (for roles requiring driving)
How long is the criminal record check valid?
Sidekicker recognises criminal record checks for 12 months from the date of submission. Sidekicks with a criminal record check added to their profile will receive an email 1-month prior to the expiry date as a reminder to complete a new check.
What info businesses will see of the Sidekicks' criminal checks
Due to privacy reasons, Sidekicker does not share the details of the Sidekicks' criminal record checks with the hiring businesses.
Businesses can rest assured that any Sidekick who can see your jobs that require the worker to hold a valid criminal record check has been verified and accepted, and Sidekicker has a hold of their up-to-date criminal record check at all times.
